Low free testosterone propecia

Propecia contains a medicine called finasteride. This belongs to a group of medicinescalled Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitors’.

Propecia is used for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (also known as androgeneticalopecia). Propecia increases hair growth on the scalp and prevents further hair loss inmen. Men with mild to moderate, but not complete hair loss, can benefit from usingPropecia.

How does the hair on your head grow?On average your hair grows about 1 centimetre (half an inch) each month. Hair growsfrom hair follicles, which are located under your skin.

A single scalp hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (growth phase) and then stopsgrowing for 2-4 months (rest phase). After this the hair falls out. In its place a newhealthy hair begins to grow, and the cycle is repeated. The hairs on your scalp arealways in different stages of this cycle so it is normal to lose scalp hair every day.

What is male pattern hair loss?

Male pattern hair loss is a common condition in which men experience thinning of thehair on the scalp, often resulting in a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of thehead. This condition is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic factors and aparticular hormone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone).

DHT causes a decrease in the growth phase and thinning of the hair (see picture). Thisleads to male pattern hair loss. These changes can start to occur in some men in their20s and become more common with age. Once hair loss has occurred over a longperiod of time, the hair may be permanently lost.

Hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (growth phase).2 months to 2 years (rest phase).4 months to 4 months (growth phase). Keep in mind that male pattern hair loss is ONLY experienced as a result of exposure to dutasteridehormone 0.5mg/day for the last 6 months.

How long does it take for Propecia to work?

Propecia typically starts working within 30 minutes to 1 hour of taking a tablet and it takes time for the regrown hair to regrow. This extended duration of action allows men with male pattern hair loss for a more prolonged treatment period.

Note: Finasteride tablets are only effective after a 1-2 week break. The medicine can be taken for up to 1 year for some people (occasionally for some).

How to use Propecia

What is the correct dosage of Propecia for male pattern hair loss? The recommended dosage of Propecia for male pattern hair loss is 1mg per day for at least 6 months. The medicine is then excreted in your body and is used up during this treatment.

The medicine should not be taken with food or oralmedicines and it is therefore advisable to avoid or limit takingPropecia during the last 6 months of pregnancy.

Can I take Propecia with other medicines?

There is not enough information to recommend the use of Propecia with other medicines, including aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or other medications that are used to reduce inflammation and to treat pain. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Propecia or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (finasteride, dutasteride or placebo) (for example, cimetidine or vanatirib), you should not take this medicine.

What are the possible side effects of Propecia? The most common side effects are decreased sex drive, erectile dysfunction, reduced sperm count, and pain in the testicles. More serious side effects can include stomach ulcers, stroke, heart attack, and blood clots.

Can men with liver or kidney problems take Propecia?
